Physical Education

Physical Education at Pensby offers all pupils opportunities to experience success in this subject. By offering a large range of activities in both curricular and extra- curricular and by developing pupils’ coaching and leadership potential we ensure that all pupils can excel, step up and achieve. Enjoyment, enrichment, engagement and empowerment through sport is our ethos.  Pupils not only develop sports specific skills to enable them to access club sport and accreditation but are encouraged to engage in healthy, active lifestyles.

Sports and activities that are offered vary from the creative and aesthetic such as dance and trampoline to competitive team sports such as rugby, football. Net wall such as table tennis, and volleyball and striking and fielding such as cricket are all covered. Knowledge of fitness training and the effects of exercise on the body is also an important part side of the curriculum. Girls and boys can access

Extra- curricular

There is an extensive programme that caters for all interests. Girls and boys can access all opportunities and we have fielded a number of girls’ cricket and rugby teams. Competitive opportunities are offered through wide, pro- active participation in the School Games Programme for which we have received the prestigious School Games Kite mark. We have a full calendar of fixtures and competitions in various leagues for football and rugby and a number of Wirral and Merseyside Championships in various sports. Specialist coaches are deployed in various sports to further enhance our provision.

Pensby High School represented Wirral in the Merseyside Indoor Athletics and the U13 Girls Rugby team also represented Wirral. U15s Boys Football were Wirral Cup finalists and finalists in the Cheshire Cup and have had notable success in trampoline gymnastics.

We are working closely with the RFU to develop rugby for both boys and girls. High quality coaches are working on a curricular and extracurricular basis to develop young players. Pupils have travelled to Twickenham to attend design workshops to design our school kit and will in the future attend an international where they will receive their new kit. This Emerging School’s Programme brings £10,000 investment to the school. Links with Cheshire Cricket and Tranmere Rovers also provides curricular and extra- curricular coaching and a host of competitive borough events which we host. Links with LIPA also support our dance provision.
