Friends of Pensby High School or FOPHS are parents and volunteers who help raise money and organise events for the school. The group meets monthly to discuss and plan events for the school and how our young people can benefit from our help.
School funding has been cut dramatically over the years, therefore any way we can help the school is most appreciated. In the last academic year we have donated funds to the music department and paid towards the benches in the the playground.
The FOPHS team consist of a Chair, Vice Chair, Treasurer, 50/50 club organiser and many parents and volunteers. It is a registered charity and therefore accountable for the monies raised.
In the last 12 months we have organised several school discos for years 7 & 8, parents and volunteers help with refreshments and supervision. The evening is enjoyed by all and monies raised are used to fund other activities.
In June 2016, FOPHS funded the Year 11 Leavers BBQ which included an assault course, food, drinks and plenty of ice cream. We received positive feedback, the Year 11’s thought this was a great way to finish their academic year.
Our Summer Fair was also a great success with a high attendance. The event included bouncy castles, assault courses, BBQ, horse rides, dog agility, school band and many more activities. The parents and volunteers work very hard each year to help organise this, contacting businesses for raffle prizes to baking cakes for the day. The summer fair is enjoyed by students and the community. It has also been noted by an inspector who recently visited the school. He thought it was an excellent way to make the school part of the community.
FOPHS also helps teachers with Open Evenings, School Drama production, Awards Evenings and many others by providing refreshments. Both school and FOPHS has an excellent working relationship.
Our upcoming events include a Cheese & Wine Evening on 14th October. This is to encourage new parents to become more familiar with the school. This is a free event funded by FOPHS and adds great value to parent teacher relationships.
We are holding a Charity evening for Joel on Friday 11th November. This is priced at £15 per head which will include a meal, disco karaoke, entertainer and bar. Raffle tickets will also be available to buy on the night. The money raised will go to Alder Hey Intensive Care Unit and his family as he continues to make his recovery. We are also holding a disco on Thursday 20th October for year. All funds raised on this might will go directly to Joel.
We also run a 50/50 club which is £1 per month to go into a group draw. This is available for anyone to join.
